The sights aren’t all that is there to be enjoyed. There are tons of things to do while you are in Drakensberg and we have listed some of our favourites.
Our List Of Things To Do In Drakensberg
Drakensberg Brewery
The Drakensberg Brewery offers patrons a selection of craft beers and draughts, accompanied by food platters to be enjoyed at the brewery or as a take-away. You will be met with great service and friendly staff who are eager to tell you about the brewing process and give you suggestions. While there is no cooked food tat the brewery, you get a board that you can pack with cold foods to go with your drinks. The platters comprise a selection of cold meats, and cheese, with breads to keep your belly lined while enjoying the beers. The atmosphere is casual and ideal for sitting outside to take in the rays. You will find that the food is very reasonable priced while the beers carry the premium price that you would expect of craft beer.
The craft beers are served in 440ml bottles and the right one is well worth the premium price that you pay for it. Our favourite is the Champagne Castle Blonde Ale. If you want to try the different beers, there is a tasting beer option which is 100ml of each of the 5 beers. For those who don’t drink beer, there is wine and soft drinks available, but we recommend trying at least one of the beers, if just for the novelty. While in the area you can engage in other activities like mountain biking and hiking trails. The Brewery is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11am until the sun sets.
Champagne Castle Adventure Centre
Champagne Castle Adventure Centre offers a host of fun activities for young and old alike. You have a choice of various activities to get up to that include abseiling, paintball, tubing, scooter tours. The setting of the scenic Drakensberg and tall pine trees make for an exhilarating experience and great photo opportunities. The activities are great fun for the whole family, with kid specific bookings available and staff to guide them. The staff on-site are well-trained and very helpful, with a big focus on making visitors feel at east. 
The centre with its activities is well organized and it is safe, thanks to the well-trained and professional guides who are there to make sure all is well. One of the fan favourite of the activities is the Scoutours. You are taken up the mountain in a 4×4 truck and after a briefing from your guide, you descend the hill. It is a lot like skiing down a moderate slope with grass in the place of snow. After you have had all your fun, you can purchase photos of your adventure and take the experience home with you. The Centre is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 8:00 to 17:00 during the low season. During school holidays it is open every day.
Drakensberg Canopy Tour
If you like lush forest and a shot of adrenaline to go with it then the Drakensberg Canopy Tour is a must. The forest has an abundance of majestic views and is a bird haven with more than 150 species of birds. You will get to enjoy a birds eye over waterfalls and cascading streams as you zip your way through the forest canopy. On your guided tour, the trained guides will take you from platform toe platform in the quest to give you an awesome eco adventure from high up between the trees and cliffs. 
The canopy tour is approximately 3 hours long and a great way to pass a good chunk of your afternoon. The tours are deliberately composed of small groups (maximum of 9) with 2 guides to keep the experience personal and ensure that you receive adequate attention from your guide. Tours departures are available from 8am to 3pm throughout the week. In the summer there might be extended hours depending on the demand. While there is no dress code, wearing open slippers is advised against as they will simply fall of when you are zipping across the cableway. Things to remember to bring are comfortable clothes and your camera for the many photo-taking opportunities.
Hiking at Giant Castle
Giant castle is easily one of the most popular places to visit in the Drakensberg region. World Heritage site The mountain peak is akin to Drakensberg’s own Table Mountain, both in terms of popularity and significance. You will have opportunity to take a scenic hike with majestic panoramic views. There is a lot of history linked to the area and one of the popular attractions at Giant castle is the rock art created by the San people many years ago. If you want to know more about the local history, you can visit the Main Caves museum and learn more about the San people and how they lived.
If you want a guided tour, tours are available daily for a small fee. Your expedition will begin at the main camp, which is situated on a flat area of land deep in the valley. From there you, you can walk to all the areas of interest like the Main Cave which is half an hour’s walk away. You will be treated to a variety of diverse natural features concentrated in a such an accessible area, including grasslands, marches, forest and rivers. There is also a diversity in the animal life, and the famous “vulture restaurant” is open in winter for visitors to watch the endangered bearded vultures feeding, and other endangered species.

Quad Biking
Want to skip the walking and explore the grasslands of Drakensberg on four wheels instead? You can spend the day riding through the mountain passes and streams on a quad bike instead. These All Terrain Vehicles will let you go off the beaten track and ride around the Drakensberg while still getting some dust on your feet. Quad biking tours are available from All Out Adventures and Four Rivers Rafting and Adventures. You can ride with an experienced team of guides who will take you through various tracks while you challenge some of nature’s obstacles.
The trail rides on quad bikes have a minimum age of 16 years. For younger adventurers, there is track quad biking available on a big 850m track and a small 150m track. You will be provided with protective gear. There are different trails available to meet the needs of different clients, and that range from 30 minutes to 3 hours in length. No prior experience is required as the bikes are automatic and novices can get to grips pretty quickly. The tours are available 7 days a week from 9:00 to 17:00.
